A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare directed By Jeremy Hutton produced by Hart House Theatre Nov 20 - Dec 5 3 week run (11 performances) Week 1: Fri-Sat 8pm Week 2: Wed-Sat 8pm Week 3: Wed-Sat 8pm & Sat 2pm matinée Single Tickets $25 / $15 students & seniors ($10 Student Tickets every Wednesday Night) reserved seating ~~~~~~~~~~ In the autumn, Shakespeare’s most widely performed comedy comes to Hart House Theatre. By far the sexiest of his plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream depicts the multiple trysts and high-jinx of lovers as they meet in a forest over-run with fairies. While the fairies taunt and titillate the lovers in the forest, a group of well-meaning, but talentless commoners rehearse a play to be presented to the aristocracy of Athens. Under the direction of Jeremy Hutton (Director of King Lear and Arcadia last season) the show is sure to be high-energy, full of tongue-in-cheek humour that will tease and thrill Hart House Theatre audiences. AUDITIONS [closed] ~~~~~~~~~~ When Fairies are Gypsies Director Jeremy Hutton has chosen to explore and create the magic of the fairies through Eastern European gypsy lore. Using the colours, energy, and all the connotations typically associated with the nomadic gypsy community, Mr. Hutton creates a fresh look (with some sinister potential) at Shakespeare's Fairy world. "The chosen setting is turn-of-the-20th-century England, where stiff manners and structured etiquette conceal true emotions and dreams. When the lovers escape this dreary place to find true love in the woods, they are teased and taunted by a Bacchanal, free-feeling troupe of gypsies (the fairies) who are full of colour, vibrancy, and dancing. As the story unfolds, the city dwellers become immersed in the spirit of the gypsy fairies and bring that colour and vibrancy back into their own world." -taken from the Midsummer's Media release If we use Jeremy's previous work as an example, A Midsummer Night's Dream is sure to be high-energy, sexy, and full of tongue-in-cheek humour that will tease and thrill Hart House Theatre audiences. ~~~~~~~~~~ 2009-2010 Season Subscription Rates Subscriptions are available at the UofTtix Box Office by phone ((416) 978-8849) or in person (Hart House lower level) Monday-Friday 11am-5pm Jerry Springer: The Opera A Midsummer Night's Dream High Fidelity: The Musical Robertson Davies: The Peeled I 2009-2010 Season details 4PLAY Subscription All 4 plays in 2009-2010 Season $80 / $48 students & seniors / $75 UofT alumni 3PLAY Subscription 3 plays in 2009-2010 Season $60 / $36 students & seniors “One of the best values in all of Toronto Theatre” EXCHANGE PRIVILEGES Hart House Theatre's Season Subscribers are the only patrons who are allowed to exchange their tickets for another performance of the same Season show, up to 24 hours in advance (in person or by phone), pending availability.
