Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, & Design website MAP ~~~~~~~~~~ Registration $20 regular $5 UofT student & faculty ~~~~~~~~~~ In face of today's rising concerns with water scarcity, many cities are confronted with the necessity to update, retrofit, or re-imagine their water infrastructure. Arid climates offer an ideal ground for such inquiry since the conservation vs. consumption dialectic is at its most extreme, and thus generates a highly problematic yet fertile milieu. The ambition of the conference: Out of Water: Sustaining Development in Arid Climates is to initiate a forum for knowledge-transfer among the design disciplines and water experts in the fields of social science, natural science, with respect to the technical and socio-political implications of water technologies in the urban environment. Twenty invited speakers from the fields of water policy, agronomy, water engineering, material science, public health, anthropology, geography, landscape architecture, planning, and architecture will present case study projects in context of their specific disciplinary methods and geographies. ~~~~~~~~~~ Conference website . |
